I used the tip end of an antler for the handle as it was too narrow to drill for a pen!

I'm not convinced on the handle on this one.

I like your box making. A simple box is like a pen. There are soooooooooooo many ideas and designs that 4 wals of a box that can be accomplished and create stunning works of art. Natures colors of wood combined in itself can lead to fantastic projects. Shapes can help a design. You are doing great as you go down this path of projects. I too hope to join you soon. After I get the shop back in somewhat order. As far as both boxes they look great and the design on the second one is a step up. The handle does look overwhelming compared to the size of the box. Cutting it thinner in the center section could give it more proportion. But that is an eye thing and it really a matter of personal choice and eye. keep them coming.

Thanks for your comments John....and I'm looking forward to seeing yours when they come.
I have removed the handle from the second box....I was never overly happy with it, and am now considering a better alternative.
I realise that the handle is an extremely important component on a box that requires more thought than I have given in the past.
Always learning!!!

Not all boxes need a handle. Depends on the style. Good luck.

Nice boxes, and I also like the idea of using the antler cutoff as a handle. I need to remember that.

The angle of the splines going the opposite way of the angle of the box sides on the second box is really imaginative. Well done.
