As stated in the title I want to put on a kitless PITH.

I am open to ideas and options.

I am happy to host and make sure all the particulars are taken care of.

Let me know if you are interested.

Yes to the pith, but no to kittless. Not everyone can do kittless pens. I can cheat by using different kits for components, but that is not kittless

You could consider a broader PITH with internal categories and then just pair or randomize inside each category.

only my 2 cents...

Kit
Closed End (some kit components used, could be a modified kit or something like the Apollo and Artemis from Bullseye Turning Supply).
Kitless (no kit but nib assembly, converter, clip may be purchased)

In your opinion would you specify that a kitless must have a clip? Or bump a clipless to closed end?

A closed end (one or both ends) pen using kit parts is not the same as a "kitless or artisan" pen. Personally I favor artisan but that's another topic to discuss. I think it unfair if I send a totally artisan (kitless) pen and get a closed end kit pen in return. Just my thoughts. Your PITH your rules.

I believe I am following, but best to clarify.

You state "Fountain pen Kit"

Must the "Closed end" and "kitless" (or artisan) be fountain pens?

#1
Fountain pen kit.
(I can change this to postable kit)

#2
Closed end
Rollerball or fountain

#3
Kitless
Nib-feed, clip and blank are the only things you can buy.

My original thought was a kitless PITH.
Since I am doing a group pith I don't mind adding other categories for more involvement.

I'm interested in doing a kitless one. However, I would appreciate at least 6 weeks, say ship by March 15th. I think random pairing of everyone involved and let each pair exchange shipping info. Then, I would say by April 5th or so, each person must post a picture of the pen they received.

It would also be great if there was a dedicated thread only for posting pictures. No discussion or anything, except maybe the initial post is of the pairings. Then all further posts are pictures.

Great ideas. I have no problem with anything you said. However I saw in another pith that the list was randomized and you shipped to the person below last person on the list shipped to the top person. I am good with pairing people up whatever works best.

It sounds like fun but I'm just not there yet - although I have made an Apollo and a couple of closed end modified from the PSI Magnetic Graduate kit. That's the fun of organizing an exchange - you can make the rules to be whatever suits you! - Dave

David,
Would you be interested in doing a closed end category? I think your skills are more than adequate to join in on that one.

Afternoon,
Yes I'm in - kitless fountain pen, acrylic with Bock nib. It'll take me around 2 weeks to prepare and finish, so delivery in March is no problem. I'm in the UK (as you can see from my location) but would be more than happy to send the pen abroad to the US or Europe.

Keep me posted - and if possible I'd like to be paired with another kitless pen maker - but that's your task I guess.

Regards,
Chriscb

I'd be in for a kitless PITH if rollerballs are acceptable. I've got one rollerball under my belt and raring to go on the next one in a week or so but I'm not quite ready to dive into fountain pens just yet.

Chris,

You will definitely be paired with a kitless maker.
I will try to get you someone in the UK. If not it will be someone willing to ship over seas

If you can do a rollerball section you can do a FP, I believe in you! Haha

I'll pair you with someone that is also doing a rollerball.

I'm sure I can make a FP section I just haven't pulled the trigger on taps and nibs yet. Maybe by the time the PITH gets kicked off I'll get them ordered. I should get paid for an order I'm working on this weekend so I'll have some play money lol.

Use this a the reason to pull the trigger on the tooling. 😂

Either way I'll pair you up with someone.

The goal of this pith is to give the advanced turners an outlet and challenge the up and coming turners.

You may want to consider Having a modified kit category and Kitless category letting the entrants decide on whether they make a Rollerball or Fountain pen rather that make separate sub categories for them.

Thanks for the thoughts.

I will have an official sign up tonight.

Just asking....

Would the closed end be similar or the same as the modified kit category or are you saying modified kit but not closed end... so 4 categories...

Here are my thoughts

#1 Postable Fountain Pen Kit

#2 Closed End/Modified Kit Fountain Pen
Exact rules tbd i.e. body or body and cap

#3 Kitless
Nib/feed, clip and blank can be purchased

For those making rollerball sections I will pair together.
