The scrap wood bin at CSUSA has tons of great pieces for making spatulas. These things cost less to make than slimlines.

Love seeing the tiny curly shavings that come off the skew, and the amazing surface it leaves behind.

Neat work and a decent challenge for a skew , intermittent cutting !
Yeah once I got used to getting a good cut and steady movement across the tool rest while leaving the desired profile on the flat parts of the spatula, it made skew work on actually round stock seem pretty easy by comparison haha.
 
I've tried two different finishes. First I did what Mike Nish used in his tutorial video, which was Scratch Freee. I had never thought of it as a finish, but I guess it's just mineral oil with some wax and a bit of tripoli abrasive. I thought it worked just fine.

Then I tried a few with regular old Mahoney Oil.

Honestly the difference between them is minor. I think I slightly prefer the Mahoney Oil.
