Hello,
My name is Benjamin, and I'm from Boise, Idaho. I'm 46 years old and have been turning pens for just under a year. I stumbled into the hobby after taking a class at Woodcraft, and I was immediately hooked. I picked up a used Jet 1014 on Facebook and hit the ground running. Since then, I've made and given away around 100 pens as gifts.

What I've discovered along the way is just how relaxing and grounding this craft is for me. Like many of us, I have a demanding and stressful job, and spending even an hour at the lathe helps me unwind. Turning a pen lowers my nerves and helps me reset.

Thank you for allowing me to join this organization. I look forward to learning from all of you.

Welcome Benjamin. Turning pens does a great job for many in relieving the stress. And a few of us have learned that making pens to sell just adds more stress, 🥴 so we just give them away more than selling! 😊

Welcome from the beaches of New Jersey! Yep, cutting stress from my crazy stressful daytime job was what brought me to this hobby as well. The ability to spend an hour or two in your shop and walk out with something you create is pretty relaxing! Now that I'm retired, it continues to keep me motivated. For as long as I have been doing this, there continues to be more to learn - so have fun and learn something new!

Welcome from Indiana!! If your schedule permits, while you're in Salt Lake City--Craft Supplies USA is only about an hour south (Provo, right off I-15). The products are the same you can order online, but the wood room is worth the visit--as is taking a look at the classroom space for a future vacation.
