Found inside 50 cals

About a year or so ago a friend give me about a 35 gallon barrel of once fired 50 Cal casings. Hadn't needed to get into them until now. Upon cleaning with soap and water and rinsing with acetone to clean the inside out, I found what looks like to be wadded up newspaper inside the casings. Anyone ever seen anything like this before or know why newspaper would be in there?
This is what came out of six of them.

Can you read the newspapers? Curious as to dates and newspaper title. However, I haven't a clue as to "why."
Put them on a mandrel and polish with Brasso.

Can you read the nendrel and polish with Brasso.

No. I tried spreading a few out to see what might be on them but no luck.
But why would I use Brasso on paper?

Brasso on the cartridges. Turn with a mandrel in the neck and a steady rest. Should have proofread the reply.
