Nice cherry red blank ended up Halloween orange??

I had a cherry red blank with white ribbons and black swirls I was excited to turn. It is to be a black chrome cigar pen from Exotic Blanks. I painted the inside of the blanks with white acrylic paint and let it dry overnight. Glued em up and turned and as I got closer to size, it got more and more orange. Not at all what I wanted, but with Halloween on the way someone will want it and I will give it to them.
It was the only blank I had like that and I didn't take a before picture. Not sure, but maybe I should have painted the inside of blank black?? Any suggestions, comments, etc. welcome. It is not finished, just sanded to 600 grit. Waiting on GluBoost to arrive.

Black or red paint would have helped. Why would you put GluBoost on a resin blank? It will polish quite well with micromesh.

When I turn blanks that don't end up looking good, I just don't put them on a pen. You can turn the material off the tubes and start again. I keep extra tubes and only assemble blanks that turn out (see what I did there) well.

It was definitely the white paint that overpowered the resin color because the red material is turned much thinner when done that it doesn't take much to alter the color. Like mentioned above, I would have used a red paint. Still, it looks nice! I put a thin Gluboost finish on most of my acrylic pens. Especially epoxy and urethane resin pours. The CA is easier to finish without leaving scratches and is harder than the resin so it will hold a shine much longer and be more durable. It also enhances the colors on custom pours.

I keep extra tubes, especially Slimline tubes, but some of the kits are obsolete. Need to figure out what to do with the tubes.

I have extra tubes but I am going to go ahead and finish the pen. I have a few family and friends that are Halloween fanatics. I am sure someone will want it. I am with John, I like the Gluboost finish. It is harder to scratch and it feels good to me.
I don't turn pens to sell, I just enjoy it and people really like them. It is just a hobby. I am retired and enjoy woodworking.
