This is a piece of jumping cholla cactus skeleton that I cast with turquoise mica and epoxy. I have a few of these blanks for sale as well if you're interested.
Thanks JeffMichael, that's a really nice/striking combo!!!
Where are these blanks for sale?
(btw, link to your Etsy page in the post, need to remove the ".com" at the end of the link)
I travel to Lubbock each Dec for a few days to visit family. I was born there, family moved after "the" 1970 tornado, not because of that, dad was transferred. Would love to stop by next trip out and chat![]()
Hey Bobby. Thanks for the compliment. Regarding SWAT, yes I attend and will be a vendor there. Matador Turning Supply will be my booth. Please stop by and introduce yourself. I will be next to Hidden Valley Woods out of VirginiaVery nice pen and wood choice. Looked at your FB and website, nice work. Have you ever attended SWAT in Waco.

I have never been a fan of the typical Cholla casts, but your skeleton cast (first picture especially) is a few bars higher. Many years ago I bought several of the cholla (maybe prickly pear) Skeleton casts from an IAP member and they were some of my favorite finished pens. He has stopped making them, claiming that the effort to clean, dry and cast was very time-consuming and cost prohibitive.
Thanks for sharing!
Those are awesome and thanks for posting pics. Would like to see the other one when yoh get it made as well. That is some stinky epoxy hahaMade my first pen last night from the couple of blanks I bought from @Bean_Counter. These are some of my favorite blanks I've ever turned, the cholla wood is just gorgeous and has incredible visual texture mixed in the resin.
I dunno what kind of resin you used. It cuts like butter and smells awfulWill definitely be coming back for more of these.
