"Obstacles de la vie"

So this is my first completed pen this year, not because of any great difficulty although there are a lot of elements, life just got in the way, hence the name.

Walnut, Padauk and Holly, black tulip veneer, black and red pvc accents and black acrylic. I made an option of fountain or refillable roller section.

Eric, I said it somewhere before that I really like your accent rings....also your finishing and your photography!!!
Thanks Alan, I use a cheap light box and my phone, I can send you the link for the light box? Also Starbond CA from Beaufort as a finish, it's not cheap but definitely worth it for the results it gives

Oh that is beautiful! The superb herringbone I expected from your previous work, but the segmented accent pieces was an added surprise. This is a work I admire and really appreciate the craftsmanship involved. WELL DONE! 👏 👏 👏

Is that a 3 D Skelton used in blank ??

Very nice craftsmanship. I've only joined recently so it's good to see your work! I love the idea of offering both fountain and rollerball options. What do you use for the end of the section, I think it might be from Schmidt? Is it a certain thread pattern?
Also, do you use epoxy, CA, or wood glue to hold all your segments and sections together?

Thanks Daniel, I use all of them, wood glue for the herringbone blank, epoxy for construction and CA as a finish. It's a Bock#6 nib and carrier and the refillable roller is the same thread as a Schmidt size 5

How do you drill that thing??? So awesome.
If you have a look in the archive I made a file called veneered 360 herringbone. Basically once assembled trim of the wings then turn between centres until it's marrow enough to fit in a collect chuck, it's the best way as the collect chuck keeps even pressure around the blank when drilling and stops it bursting out

Do you have build plans for your drill press thickness planer?
So it's basically based on something I found in a modeling magazine but the barrel, bottom bearing and arbour were supplied by a company in the UK. I can't seem to find the file I used for layout but heres a link for hardware. Hope this helps

Found the original post, I think I had to purchase the PDF plans but as I said can't seem to find them.
