Who has one of the new Trend Air Shield Pros and uses it. Could you give us a little review? Always like hearing from actual turners who use the tools when reviewing. If you had used their older version, has this one been improved much. The old was top heavy and the battery life was low and the fan was noisy. Trying decide being my old one gave up its life.

Did your croak or is it the battery? Yes the old one is heavy. After an hour I feel like my tie is caught in my zipper.

Both the battery just about does not hold a charge any more and the motor is not working.. Just was thinking before I spend any money or time on this one what the thoughts are on the new version.

Never know what you have until you get it. Research all reviews. If prices all equal where you buy it.... try Amazon Prime in case you do to like it. Easy no hassle returns.
 
John - if your Airshield that's not working is one of the pre-"Pro" versions, I might be able to help you with parts to get it working again, as I was given one that the helmet itself broke but the motor was still good, and I made a AA-battery holder to replace the stock rechargeable battery (the one that looks like a pack of Marlboros with a plug sticking out the top like you're taking one out ... I know, pix would help!) The holder takes 3 x AA batteries - I used Eneloops (the rechargeables which hold their charge even if sitting unused for a couple of months) but regular disposables work fine.

So this is an offer - if you are interested in trying to fix the one you have, I'll see if I can get the motor out of the cracked shell and send that and a battery holder your way for the cost of postage.

Won't get you a new Airshield, of course, so you won't get the pleasure of unboxing a new toy tool - but it will save you a bundle of $$$

Thanks but I will have to take a real deep dive into it and if I start doing that I maybe able to fix it. The batteries are easy. But the thing was heavy on the neck and that is what really annoyed me about it. When turning for a long time you are always leaning over and that extra weight hurts. As I said when I get the half mask respirator I will try that some to see how that works. I have face shields. That should be coming this week. But until I feel well enough to get back to shop I will just hold off.
 
John, what brand of half mask respirator did you purchase, if you don't mind me asking? I am looking to purchase one soon. Will it be in the shop until it warms up. Thanks

Understood. I'm not planning to throw out the pieces anytime soon (don't let my wife see this post) so if you decide you'd like to exercise the option later, just message me and the chances are really high I'll still have them.

Keith, I got this one. It gets high marks everywhere and there is videos out there that show proper way to clean them when they get filthy. With a couple different filters. Going to give it a fair trial when I start my new projects down the road. Now I bought the large so hope it fits properly. That is what they talk about alot. Needs to fit face properly

That is the exact setup I use myself. Same exact mask, same gas/fume filters. I also use these filters for particulate:

3M 7093 P100 Particulate filters

Also, I was digging around, looking at the data sheet for the 60926 filters. Apparently, they DO explicitly filter out formaldehydes:


So, they ARE capable of capturing the primary fumes from CA glue.

Yea that is why I leaned into that filter when buying. Will see how all goes. I used a similar version before but not as well made. It was some quick version from Home Depot when I was varnishing woodwork alot. I still got headaches. So hopefully I can use for all jobs in the shop.
 
Hey John. Just an fyi. I have been involved with tight fitting face piece 1/2 mask respirators for 30 pluse years. In the pst 20 or so years providing NIOSH/OSHA approved fit testing anywhere between 600 -1200 fit test a year. The 3M 6000 series are by far the most popular in our area refineries & petrochemical plant. It is definitely my choice out in my shop. Only way to properly to know the proper size is with a quantitative or qualitative fit test. Most any occupational clinics and safety vendors offer this service. Just to note, probably 90+% of the 3M 5000/6000 series 1/2 mask fit test I have performed were for a large size. An occasional medium and few smalls for very narrow or small face individuals.

Well this is good to read. I do not have a beard. I do have a large head to go with a large body:) I should get it to work well.
