Ok, so a pen blank is 0.75" x 0.75" x 5" = 2.9" cubic inches
Or 0.625' x 0.625' x .417' = 0.16' cubic feet

If the tree was a cone shape with the base at 21' and a height of 315' according to the sign:
Solving for the area would give 22,213' cubic feet.

Dividing by 0.16' cubic feet per blank = 22,213' / 0.16' = 138,831 pen blanks give or take.
(Probably a lot more since I didn't account for any branches).

So if security sees someone lurking around at midnight with an axe, you would be the main suspect Dave!!

Yet somehow this number still seems small for some reason 😂
I've been to the redwoods though and it's startling. I guess I just look up and my brain says "I dunno…a couple million?"

I think my math is off by a bunch. It sounded low to me too. In fact I know it is. A blank is 0.016 cubic feet, not 0.16. So you are right. More like 1.5 million, then toss in the branches. Probably closer to 3 million blanks. - Dave

Did you account for various kinds of saw kerfs, though?
