We had a LOT of Huisache brush on our farm in Columbus, TX, but most of it was killed by the hard freeze we had a couple of years ago (saved me the trouble & expense). I was at the farm today to see how we fared in this year's hard freeze (very well, fortunately).

While I was there, I decided to cut up a little of that Huisache. I only had my old Craftsman battery powered chain saw this time & the batteries don't last very long, so I only got a few small logs today.

The sap wood looks a little punky, but the heart wood seems quite solid. I managed to slab off a piece before my last battery died. The wood looks great with some beautiful reddish brown, pink, and golden colors plus a little spalting.

I'll try to process these into pen & stopper blanks & a few spindles when I get back home. Next time I'll bring my good Husqvarna saw along & harvest a bunch of this stuff. 🙂

Looks nice Edgar! I also try to save what I can from my property, just don't need more pen blanks... Beech, hickory, english oak, sycamore, ... too much to harvest. Yours looks nice.
Thanks - I have a LOT of available wood, at least 40 different varieties. I pretty much only harvest downed limbs & trees, but even that is much more than I have time of energy to deal with. I noticed another huge pecan limb on the ground today - I will try to harvest some of that soon.
