I finally found the pen after a bunch of searches of this site. Took a while to get the correct search words and it lead me to the post a year after it was entered which lead me to the picture of it and the contest year it was in. Champhor. Can't win because I am not the first to guess it by far but no biggy as I have too many blanks as it is. 😊

Now for the first one to find the threads I mentioned above, contest and year and the subsequent year when the pen was shown in another contest announcement, NO PRIZE!!! Just the satisfaction of finding them and the bragging rights. I hope I can find them again. 😉

Boy Edgar the cat is out of the bag now. Sorry. Guess there is no harm posting this now. In my post #14 I thought I was discreet in the clues. Here is the link to the contest. I too remember those contests. That is back when we had fun on this site. We had many different fun contests. Use to love the trash talking contests. We had the right people to carry that one through. There were some real sick people back then.:eek:

Since the correct answer wasn't revealed yet I'm guessing they are all wrong. Also guessing that if nobody knows it must be obscure. How about Vitex aka Chaste tree?

jt, the therapist said it would help push thoughts to the back of my mind.

Pete, I could do the build, but I think the trash talk part is best left to rot in the IAP compost bin. I wouldn't want to be like one of those athletes who stayed in the game one year too many.

I can take the trash talk if given in the spirit of a little light ribbing. Not out of meanness though and never with someone I don't know. If it ever happens I want you to know that I will leave you alone............well mostly. 😉

I thought this was a new way to type on the key board. Was going to try it but my head is too big and would hit too many keys. It would drive spell check crazy.:D

You have a little over 24 hours to post your last guess or two (no more than one per day). This contest will close sometime tomorrow.

The first correct entry gets a BOB, but all other correct entries will go into a random draw for a second BOB. Unless you are certain about your guess, you might want to submit another.

Thanks for playing.

Since the contest is over...... I think. These are the two threads I mentioned in post 49 above where Edgar's Magnum pen was shown that led me to the thread where the wood was mentioned. #6 #5 Anybody find them after I posted?

All entries received before I close the contest tomorrow will be considered. Probably around noon or so.

This is one time I don't mind strong hints. 😉

Aww sorry Edgar. I saw "You have a little over 2; hours to post your last guess……" and the rest about tomorrow being the end didn't register. I made it too easy for those guessing until tomorrow and diluted the guesses up to this point. I disqualify myself so the befores have a better chance of a win.

Oh, pooh! That was supposed to be 24 hours. No big deal. Sorry, you can't disqualify yourself. 😉

Pete again I posted that back in post #14. Way before you did. Just did not want to give exact photo. Played along with Edgars game.

Sorry John. I have you on Ignore so I miss your threads and posts. I only occasionally look at a post to see what you may have said if I think it pertains to something I have said. Because you quoted me I knew there was something.

No problem Pete. Lots of people have me on Ignore. In fact I tried figuring a way to put myself on ignore. I even think Jeff has me on Ignore.

It should come as no surprise to learn that the wood used in making this pen was Camphor. :)

This is one contest where I did not mind blatant hints, and I want to thank everyone who contributed those hints and to everyone who participated.

The first person to correctly identify the wood was Brian Garthwaite (Brian G). A total of 8 other people correctly guessed camphor, and they were entered into a random draw with numbers assigned in the order they submitted their guess. The winner of that random draw is Ken Burgess (KenB259). Brian and Ken each win a BOB from my personal stash of blanks. I will include a camphor pen blank in the BOBs.

As hinted, this was my entry in the Difficult to Write With contest for our 2016 BASH. I called it a Magnum Sierra since the bottle was shaped in the form of a 1.5 liter "Magnum" wine bottle. Here is the description that I posted with my entry that year. Nope, I didn't win anything -- not enough exposed sharp spikes. Thanks to all for playing.

Name of Pen: Magnum Sierra
Since a 1.5 liter bottle of wine is called a magnum, I decided to make a pen that would not only be difficult to write with, but would also be a difficult projectile to fire. Unless you have the hands of an NBA player, you pretty much need to hold this thing with both hands in order to write with it. I have no idea how you would load it into a rifle.
This is a closed-end Sierra pen with a 3-pound blank that started out as 16" long by 5" diameter camphor log. I shaped it into a Bordeaux-style magnum wine bottle with the front end of a chrome Sierra kit serving as a pour spout. The Sierra front end can be twisted in the normal manner to extend and retract the refill. The bottle is just over 4" in diameter and is 14" tall (without the Sierra topper).
There are no standards for magnum wine bottles, but the Bordeaux-style is commonly used. Bordeaux bottles are characterized by their long, straight sides, sharp shoulders and short neck. They are generally about 4" in diameter and 13-14" tall with a slight taper at the bottom and a shallow punt (concave recess in the bottom). I used the dimensions of the Gino Pinto 1.5 liter Bordeaux-style bottle as a guide. The actual diameter of my bottle is 4.3" because I wanted to preserve that bit of bark wood that you see on the front of the bottle as a natural "label".
