This is a Chalk Holder in chrome from PSI. The wood is Patagonia rosewood from Woodcraft. The finish is Pens Plus and carnuba wax. Cool little kit, but I don't know how often chalk is used these days. I think white boards have replaced chalk boards for the most part.

Hi Jim - very nicely done. In my opinion it is a shame that the world has gone away from chalkboards and to white boards. Chalk is inexpensive and lasts a long time. Those dry erase markers don't last long and inevitably wind up in a landfill as only a fraction of the material is usable - unlike chalk that is virtually all consumed by the job. When I was teaching, I could get my message across just fine with chalk -- and it even came in different colors just like dry erase. - Dave

What is a SMART Board?
They are really cool, my wife used one for her last 5 or so years teaching. Think of it as a computer screen that you can write on. They use a projector to project the image from a computer, and you use various tools to 'write' on the board, and that is transmitted from the board to the computer, and comes back from the projector. You can do multi-media presentations on it as well; a film or animation on part, while you can write notes on other parts of the screen. When they are off, they look just like a white board (in fact they double as a white board).
