Seems the older I get the harder it gets to get a good night sleep. Well many times I find myself getting up and turning the computer on such as this 2:00 am and unfortunately I am here talking about a bad habit. But here is the story. Was watching the news the other day and the story about the moon rocket was playing and it brought back many memories when we went to the moon and then we did the space shuttle thing and all that. All very fascinating. This stuck in my head and I must have been brainwashed. A couple days ago I had one of those nights again and this time I found myself on a buying spree as I turned the computer on. Just so happened I wind up on Wood Turnings site and found myself buying pen kits. (something I DO NOT need more of) But I thought I would try the shuttle pen kit they sell. Then I added some Voyager kits, some chess kits and bushings. So now I have more kits to try whenever I get back in the shop. To go along with that now the mind is spinning overtime thinking about some blanks I will be making. This pen turning stuff is dangerous stuff. There has to be a cure.

I have over the years also found myself on Amazon buying tools that I really did not need. I think I need to seek out help.o_Oo_Oo_O Going to try to get back to sleep. Wish me luck.

A lady came to one of our senior church groups. Her topic was "The Golden Years -- What a Crock!"

I sit and yawn for an hour, while my brain does not have a thought in it.... Go to bed, "Do laundry?", "Start dishwasher?", "Bundle up paper and cardboard?", "Clean cat litter box?", "What to eat in morning?", etc, etc, etc....

So I don't know if this will help, but, I have chronic pain and when I wake and can't go back to sleep- I take a hot shower barely dry off and then get straight back to bed, for some reason this helps and I'm back out like a extremely tired little baby- not a screaming my head off kind of baby-( there I was trying to be funny like clock man also- the screaming baby part) …. Anyway , I highly recommend this ! Hope this helps

Oh come to my shop and look at the many duplicates of tools I have. Example. Many years ago I bought an oil air compressor for the shop along with many brads nailers and finishing nailers and even a stapler. They were Porta Cable brand with a couple Bostitch. Had the whole line. That worked out well. Decided I needed a portable oiless air compressor for around the house work. The oil one was plumbed in the shop so did not want to keep moving that one. Have a real large one for air spraying scrollsaw work. So I bought a Dewalt 5 gal. Well that compressor died and I took it apart started to fix it but things got in the way and it still sits on the bench in pieces. One night I decided to just buy another compressor. To make this story even longer:) I go on Amazon and they had a great sale on a Bostitch 6 gal with 3 tools included. $275 (still on sale) So I bought it. Then I buy a framing nailer and another finishing nailer to complete the line up. The same lineup I already have but in Porta Cable line. This is just one example. So you tell me there is no tool not needed. I am now a 2 fisted air gun slinging tired eyed want to be carpenter. :D:D:D Anyone need some molding nailed up??

Well my hobbies are my only daemon habit so that is where the mad money goes. When I go the family can use the nail guns to nail the casket closed.:):) (maybe a little too dark humor) better leave now.

I generally don't have trouble sleeping, but there are rare instances where I'm worried about something, and the mental fretting keeps me awake for hours. Back before I retired, I found that if worried through the problem for an hour or so, I could come up with a solution, but it was important that I get up and immediately take the time to document whatever solution I came up with - if I waited until the next day, I wouldn't be able to reconstruct the solution and would have to start over again on solving the problem. It's amazing how many work problems got solved that way.

I've also found that doing something mindless such as mowing the lawn - is also conducive to thinking through and solving problems.

As to the shopping thing - I'm naturally pretty frugal, so I tend to avoid impulse purchases. However, I noticed that during the Covid lockdown, I often found myself going to Amazon and buying stuff that under normal times I would have not even looked at twice.

The Shuttle is a cool kit. It's very top heavy, and not comfortable to write with. But I don't write with it, I just display it. The blank is Flaming Forge from Beartooth Woods.

oh man, you americans have all the best toys; i would do probably the same if i lived over there. I don't have a thing for nail guns but i am addicted to hand tools, knives and axes (i try not to use that word,i say "i am passionate/i am a collector" etc.).

I like your shuttle pen. I have seen a few here and always thought about getting a few. I will make a display stand for it and it will be a desk pen for sure. Same goes for the other kits. As I said the mind is spinning already and I am nowhere near able to visit the shop.

Tool collecting is not a hobby of mine but find myself acquiring quite a few of some types. Have many many routers. I blame alot of that on Norm Abrams. He did not change router bits, just changed routers. He led me down the path of many tools that I did not need. His show was a huge reason for many want to be carpenters and craftsman.

The computer may be part of the problem. Light sources, especially display screens such as computers, TVs, smartphones, tablets, etc. can affect sleep in negative ways that you may not realize, even more so in the evening and nighttime hours. They can be a factor in insomnia and other sleep disorders.

Do some web searches like "sleep disorders and screens", stuff like that.

Age is another factor that affects sleep. Also look at the medications you are taking and your dietary habits. It is not only about what you take and what you eat, but when you take them and when you eat them. Your sleep may improve if you change some medications from morning to bedtime or from bedtime to the morning. Talk to your doctors. The same is true of food - eliminating late night snacks may help, too.

Norm was amazing. Of course, when companies pay you to use their tools, you can have as many routers as you want.

I have to Thank You John. First I heard about the chess pens. One of my passions. I'll have to order some.

Yes they look rather nice. I played many years ago so had to have a few of them. Very dangerous visiting some of these vendors. I have a hard time leaving Turner's Warehouse too. Good luck.

I look forward to seeing the pen stands you make! Yours are always amazing. Now, on another note, if you want to keep buying tools you don't need you could just send them to my address 😄
I hate to admit this but just had a tool show up today that I thought I would never need or buy. It is a laser level with tripod. Bought last week on Amazon. I am thinking this will come in handy doing my accent wall in my living room. Have a basic idea of what I want to do and will require many angles in various woods. Also installing a couple solid oak paneled bifold door systems for closets which I want to customize later. These things are heavy so should help level things off.

Oh good. I'm not the only one that stays up too late finding deals too good to pass up on things I don't need. I could probably sleep pretty well right now. Probably even should, but here I am trying to keep my eyes open.
I usually joke around with customers that they can always read the terms of service if they have trouble sleeping.
Seriously, I recommend reading the book of Chronicles. It's tough to stay awake through that.

Isn't that the reason why the Home Shopping Network runs all night?

(Personal comment: I can't stand that show and never never watch it.)

Well I waited too long to order the chess kits. They are unavailable at this time.

Really I just ordered last week. Hope I did not buy them out and they do get more in. I can see these being a seller for me. I better recheck my order to see if I got all I asked for. I did not see anything backordered.

I just checked it is the white chess piece that is sold out. I bought the black. Wanted to try them before I got too heavy into them. Not a cheap kit but a cool looking kit. When the white comes back in I will order more.
