I have a Delta 46-460 lathe. Communicating with the folks at Delta, I have a Type # 1 manufactured in December 2010.

The on/off switch and reverse switch are showing how much use they have had over the last 12 years and need to be replaced. From what I've been able to locate so far, both these items are listed as obsolete. I've been able to locate these switches, but only for Type # 2 (later manufacture) lathes. Fuzzy online images seem to indicate that the Type # 2 switches are not direct replacement parts for a Type # 1 lathe.

Does anyone have a source for early Type # 1 parts? Or can someone clarify whether the switches are interchangeable?

Thank you.

Much appreciated. I was able to purchase the on/off switch.

After doing some looking, I ran across an old Forum thread talking about Type 1 and Type 2 lathes. One person posted that a Type 1 machine can be retrofitted with a Type 2 switch. Does anyone know if this is true?

Matthew,
I also have this lathe and have not had the switch problem yet. What was your final solution to the problem?

Ed,
Parts for a Type # 1 lathe are almost non-existent. I did purchase the on/off switch and reversing switch but neither will not be a straight replacement as they are for a Type # 2 lathe.
I did take the housing apart and using canned air, blew out a lot of very fine dust from the interior (I was concerned using air off a compressor would be too much). Since then I've had just a few issues with the reversing switch or the on/off switch but nothing that is causing anything more than a minor inconvenience.
When either switch becomes a problem, I'm going to have an electrician friend set me up with new switches in a separate box attached to the lathe. He's already taken a look at the lathe and sees no issue with getting the work done.
Happy turning!
Matthew
