I got away from making pens for awhile (never got very good at it anyway) My cousin over on the farm in Illinois, asked if I could make some Hummingbird Houses?
So I hit Youtube, and found a few turners who had made some, and figured out the best way for me to make them. He also asked for 24 Carpenter Bee traps. So for them, I just repeated the process I used for the Birdhouses. 10 Hummingbird Houses, and 24 Carpenter Bee Traps = 1 new Rikon 70-150VSR lathe. And I love the lathe.

So I was using a Wipe On Poly finish on the Birdhouses, but my cousins son is burning some flowers and things on them with his laser. He asked that I not glue in the Perch, nor glue on the Roof. This makes it easier for him to do the engraving. GREAT! So that's why the five on the counter are dry.

So that's what I've been doing, and plan to do more. Hope you all approve! Thanks for looking.

Certainly look fancier than any hummingbird nest I`ve seen . Will the birds use them ?
Like Jerry Measimer said, the Bird People claim that Hummingbirds don't live in Houses. But how do you know if you don't give them the opportunity to? I agree with him. I only know that he sells thousands of them. And many others are as well. I have sold 13 myself.

Really, these are nothing more than ornaments.

Very nice, how do you attach the top? Our wren houses get stuffed full of sticks and need to be cleaned out yearly.
It's like a Tenon & Mortice . You turn a tenon on the bottom of the roof, and it fits inside the top of the body. Maybe I mean a Spigot on the roof.

Really nice looking houses, on both parts, Chuck. I know if I was a humming bird I'd nest in one of those. Those are very nice and I'm happy for you and your new lathe. I think your bee traps just might keep the bears from tearing apart the plastic ones I use. It for sure would put some splinters in their mouths, dad gum bears!!!

BTW. Third picture down...is that a cookie on a cooling rack? I'd die for a good cookie.
