Just wondering . . .

As far as I can tell, Eugene has not made an appearance of any significance on IAP for over 2 years.
He used to appear quite regularly, offering spectacular selections of pen blanks he had made, many in Alumilite.

Anybody have contact info for Eugene ? . . . please let me know in a private message conversation.

Thanks

I ordered some blanks from him during the summer from him on FB. He is doing a great business there for sure. Have to say there are many more pen turners on FB than are here. Just a different platform. Have not seen anything over the top that jumps at you. There are a few good segmenters but do the Basic Gisi look which I am getting tired of seeing. This place is still the best. Too hard to follow topics on FB.

Saw a guy on FB that was making unique pen boxes and pen stands. They were beautiful. I tried to talk him into joining us here but I guess he did not want to. Love to see thing like that here more.

Thanks for the link. I looked at the website, and there are a few pieces that are appealing, but at $10+/ea., ouch.
Is there something that justifies the prices? I was looking at other sources, at similar pieces, in similar or exact coloring, and
those range from less than $3/ea. up to a bit over $6/ea.
My lack of experience tells me, that they would all look the same after being finished, and in a side by side comparison,
wouldn't be able to be singled out.
If anyone would like to educate a green horn on the differences in pricing, and finished product, it is much appreciated.

I've noticed the same with kits as well, so I'm not isolating any particular entity.

I think his blanks are all Alumilite, which is not cheap stuff by any means. Most of the Alumilite blanks I see are easily around $10, sometimes more. WoodCraft usually sells Alumilite blanks in-store for no less than $13 each. Also, size will usually play a role here, and I usually find Alumilite blanks in the 7/8ths to 1" size range, which require more resin volume than your classic 5/8ths or 3/4rs sizes.

There are other resins, but when it comes to the swirl type stuff, it seems Alumilite is the better option. I don't see quite the same look for swirled blanks made with other kinds of resins.
