Hi all,

I am a semi-retired Coloradan (Italian/German) with 47 years experience as a cabinetmaker, shop owner, manager, etc. I have a small shop that I keep busy in and although I have turning experience from years ago (mostly architectural millwork) I consider myself a newbie. I recently added a Powermatic #2014 with all the accouterments to my equipment "herd". I have watched numerous YouTube videos on all aspects of pen turning and have yet to turn my first pen due to workload (semi-retired my butt) but have a starter set and about ready to have a go at it. I have a tendency to jump in the deep end on anything I start new but plan on going slow with this new venture. I hope to learn a lot from this site and welcome any tips. Of course I want to "do it all" (segmented, acrylic, casting, etc.) but will try to stay focused with wood for now. Would like to see if other Colorado turners are willing to help, I'm 25 miles north of Denver. Thanks

Hi. Welcome. There is a pen club which meets at the woodcraft in Loveland.
The schedule is a bit odd to get used to, but it is generally the 3rd Thursday of the month (except) December. No meeting in December because of the holidays. However, here's where it gets weird. The third Thursday is only the third Thursday if you count from the first Thursday after the first Tuesday. So as long as there is a Tuesday before the first Thursday, then it is the third Thursday. If the first Tuesday is after the first Thursday, then it is the fourth Thursday.

Anyways, the date for January is: 1/20/22. We start at 615, but you can be early. Masks are required per the arapaho county mandate.

My name is Patrick and I'll be there, so I look forward to meeting you.

Thanks Patrick, I'll try to make the January meeting. I've been to that Woodcraft store.
