My brother has been in the Air Force for some
time and over the last few months he asked me if I was interested in making him a "subdued" flag pen. Honestly, I had no clue what a "Subdued" flag was until he showed me a patch on his uniform.
I gave it some thought and decided to try making a label pen. I figured the Bolt Action would be appropriate as well.
So, after figuring the measurements and a couple failed attempts of placing a label I poured them in Alumilite Clear slow. (Them cuz I poured two.)

the label seam isn't completely hidden, but this IS my first go at it.

I sent him photos of the pen and he got all weepy on me. He's my brother, so I told him to knock it off. It was, infact, an honor and a blessing that I have come to this point to make something that had so much meaning to someone whom is so close to me.

I think it looks great, whether it's your first attempt or not. No wonder your brother got emotional. This isn't a criticism, just a suggestion. I think I would have gone with the PSI black flag ceramic bolt action.

I was looking at those ceramic bolts the other day. They look pretty nice. I may have tried it. However, It could have been overkill with Stars and Stripes- if there is such a thing? 😂
You like the ceramic bolts?

I love them. I made a Thin Blue Line for my son, who is a corrections officer. And a Marine Dress Blues for my cousin, who is a First Gulf War veteran.

What an awesome pen!! I have to learn hot to do that, and the ceramic ones also! Just as soon as my lathe gets here and I learn how to turn a pen...🤣 Very beautiful and touching for all us vets and active duty.

Beautiful story, and a very beautiful pen! I made a pen for my brother a week ago, he was so blown away with it that he just wants to watch it and never use it. No greater feeling than making something so impactful to the family member.
