Annular Unknown Wood

This is an Annular pen in gunmetal, from Crooked Mill. The wood is unknown, it's from the cutoff bin at Rockler. Turned out really nice. There is even some spalting in the wood. The finish is Pens Plus.

I like the contrast, but then I just like gunmetal hardware in general. I'm not sure why a lot of "name that wood" threads have me seeing bubinga. I know, you didn't ask, but it's a fun challenge. We may never know the right answer from the cutoff bin, though.

It could be bubinga, I suppose, the color is right. I've never seen spalted bubinga, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I thought the first piece I turned was spalted, then I learned that the dark lines are pretty typical for bubinga. I can't say I was disappointed, though. Now I need to go check the scrap bin at Klingspoor's since I'll be right by it at the Chiropractor in a couple hours. See what you started?

I decided to avoid it since I have easily $200 worth of blanks, probably quite a bit more, around here already.

BUBINGA! It's just fun to say.
I'm with sorceretd on liking Gun Metal, but aside from that, it is a genuinely nice pen.
