Three Slimlines made today. The one with the coloured bands is a try out. I spotted some coloured Ball Markers when playing Golf this week so I just used all four colours as a try out they need separation and possibly use ony two colours but I just wanted to see how they turned and looked.
I quite like the result and will experiment on another pen.
Hope you like the Pens as always you comments would be appreciated.

Experimenting with new materials is one of the parts of this hobby I enjoy a great deal. Anytime I've tried to use "easily obtained" plastic chips I've arrived at a similar look: something of a highly polished but "fractured" translucence. Knowing how it winds up looking helps me use it in the "right" circumstance.

G'Day Michael.

I love the colors and the thicknesses. Sandwiched between a white hotel/credit card will give it nice separation. They are very attractive shades.

Minor point, on the second pen, I suspect you are getting some sanding contamination from your bushings into the maple ends - the darker edges. I try to do as much sanding from the middle-out, or go to delrin CA bushings, or even just undersized bushings to avoid this. Final sanding between a dead center and live center is also great.

I may explore 'golf markers,' thanks for the intro!

Thank you all for your comments. The coloured Ball markers do react strangely when polishing they seem sensitive to heat in fact they start to melt with to much pressure. I masked them off and used burnishing cream then finished the pen with Melamine Laquer. You need to sand the small pip off the one side prior to laminating. I'll have another go and try the card for separation.
The crackle effect I think adds to the effect and maybe a heat problem. They did turn easy.

Yes I agree I did use a stain on that particular pen the wood was not showing much grain and I tried to make it interesting. Think possibly a build up of stain on the ends maybe the problem glad you liked the Lamination. Thank you for you input much appreciated.
