Gatsby Ipe

This is a PSI Gatsby, in chrome and gunmetal, that I purchased from Rockler. The wood is ipe. Made a handsome pen.

I like your pen very much. I keyed on the title because I just turned ipe for the first time last weekend and I *think* I really like it. Inexpensive and dense... It was a pleasure to turn.
And I liked the brown color, until I held it next to another "brown" wood pen. Then the ipe looked greenish... which I wasn't as fond of. (Reminds me of Steve Martin's dark blue tuxedo from Father of the Bride, if you get the reference.)

Ipe reminds me of lignum vitae, which is also very dense. The Argentine variety can be green.

I love the grain in Argentine Lignum Vitae. And the smell. The color will really deepen when left in the sun for a few days, too.
Now I'm going to have to see if I have a piece of Ipe down there to compare to other woods. It didn't seem greenish to me before.

I've turned ipe several times, and none look green to me.

Beautiful pen. I'm a big fan of the sleekness and simplicity of it. I've never turned a Gunmetal and Chrome Gatsby before, but it looks like I might have to!
