My wife who is my biggest critic thinks it looks like two pens put together ( once she is out of hospital ) she may change her mind. I made it to look a little different and the more I look at it I think she may be correct. However I would like you to pass judgement, go on I can take it.

I like the look of the upper half, but I have to admit, I think I agree with her. The lower section just doesn't seem to fit with the upper. Perhaps if the darker bands were a little wider with white accents. That way it would look more like the inverse of the upper.

I sort of agree perhaps its one for the bin attachment. Changing the subject I have just had a assembly/disassembly device and I am rather pleased with it. So I can take it apart and then throw it in the bin.
Thanks for your comments.

I could go either way with the top and bottom. Overall I like it. My wife would say it's too busy but I like the burls and such and she doesn't. Also if I'm understanding you correctly "When your wife gets out of the hospital" be careful when she does!! I'm twice the size of my wife and when there's a situation she just looks me in the eyes and smiles while saying " You have to sleep sometime@.

I like the way it is sectioned. The grooves (wire burned?) in the lower break up the solid color blank nicely. I'm not a fan of the shape, but we all have different tastes.

Just remember that your wife is right, even if you are not wrong. ;)

Thank you for your comments. My wife knows everything and the little bit she doesn't know my mother in law knew.

When I first read that I thought you were saying you put her in the hospital because she didn't like it! IF that was so I would change my mind too!

Both barrels have promise. You could turn matching barrels and make it into two pens with matching barrels.

That is a pen of two halves. There's nothing too bad about the top section, so why not just dismantle the nib end and make a new section to match the top ( without the Mae West shape )

This brings up a really interesting design question: how important is it for the top and bottom half of a pen to look unified? You can never go wrong keeping them identical... but that gets boring after a while.

Experimenting with ways to add visual interest while making the top and bottom pieces unique is a great game. To paraphrase a misattributed Mark Twain quote: the two parts don't need to repeat, but perhaps they should rhyme.

I hope your wife's doing well and able to come home soon.

I kind of like it. I think it might work a little better with a bit more of the darker material in the bottom half (kind of like a reverse image.) I also like the contour of the pen.

Thank you for your comments sometimes when you laminate the blanks its difficult to visualise how they will turn out and I get carried away with the turning

Micheal, I'm sorry, but, I do have to agree with your wife on this one. I hate doing so, because, I personally think that us men have to stick together and support each other. Disassemble the pen, and turn new pieces for each half needed, something that better matches each half. Then you could tell her that, you were just testing her judgement as your preferred critic. And, that you never intended to. leave the two halves to stay together as one pen.

Im a bit confused by it. Either the bottom rings need to be solid so it flows in the lower section lime in the top, or the top dividing lines in white need to again be inset so they visually pair up.

As for SWMBO I find garlic rosaries keep both mother in law and wife remote

I really like it - the shape, the colours contrast but have a little in each half. Don't bin it - someone will love that
