Thanks Michael. The background for the watch-parts is carbon fiber sleeve for the black one and fiber sleeve for the others colors. I also learning using abalone for background. Now that is the way to make an entrance. You will fit quite well around here. I see you have touched a few different styles of pen making and doing well with them. I would like to know the material used as background for the watch part pens especially the black one. By the way welcome to the best pen turning forum on the net. Hope you stick around and continue showing some of your work and you keep expanding your craft.
Thanks Mal. Of course. For the cigar pen I used carbon fiber sleeve and white fiber sleeve for the emperor. The emperor a blank I won in a waffle from Jason Robinson. I damage the cap portion. Tried to recast over and make it worst. Since it was a polyester resin I soaked in acetone to free all the parts. Then redo the top portion with fiber and cast it with alumilite clear slow. The watch parts are glued to tube using clear nail polish.Welcome to IAP !!! .. Your pens are beautiful !!!
I especially love that Jr. Emperor Watch Parts pen ..... WOW !!
I'd like to know, please, what you used as the background to which you glued the watch parts.
Also, the same question for the black Cigar watch parts pen, please.
Not sure who you are answering to but I am John and I asked the same question as Mal. I figured the sleeving but the black one looked odd because of the lighting maybe but it looks like the resin did not stick well to the carbon fiber or it has glazing going on. Maybe as I said just the lighting and that is why it looked different to me. Thanks for replying. Thanks Michael.
