I like the design but feel the pen would have benefitted from more consistent darkening between the "beads". Perhaps paint or burning would have better served what I am guessing (based on my own trials) may have been a Sharpie or other marker.

Yes I'm afraid I was to close to the pen tube to burn. So used a felt tip . Well spotted.

Well done! I guessed skew practice and then read that that was the case. I usually don't favor non-traditional elements, but yours is appealing! Very nice.
