The photo is pretty low resolution, hard to tell, a higher resolution photo is really needed. A close-up of the endgrain (sanded) might also be helpful. Relative weight and hardness (compare to known woods you have in your shop). Also, the origin of the wood might be helpful (was it in a box with other domestics, exotics, etc). Smell can also be helpful - some woods have pretty distinct odors. Florescence is another wood ID trick that can be helpful.
 
I like John's guess, I was going to say white oak. The links below you can see how endgrain can be very useful for ID (ash/oak are just two possibilities, you should be able to easily rule out one):

Since you're based out of Asia, my guess with little other data might be Paulownia. Especially if the wood is very light weight. Paulownia is used quite a bit in Japan. I just bought a board of Paulownia recently and it seems to look a lot like yours...
