I wanted to like this kit more than I actually do. I like the idea of the magnetic postable cap because I don't really like the screw on. But it's awkward to use. Too long and too top heavy with the cap posted and too short with it off. If anyone has suggestions for a magnetic cap pen you love I'd like to hear them. Oh also the 10.5 and 12.5 tubes are a nightmare to drill.

Blank here is an ebay cheap walnut burl. Love the blank. Finish is CA.

I like the Zen pen kit with magnetic cap ... but it is also quite long, and you may find it top heavy when posted.
The thing that I like about it is that it is a single barrel and straight-sided. . Easy to make.

I haven't made many rollerball or fountain pens and none with a magnetic post. It is a very attractive pen though. I think I have some of the walnut burl blanks from eBay. I really like them. - Dave (egnald)

I just did a poll Instagram on Instagram, the Zen, the Rollster and the the Vertex. The Zen won and I just ordered 3 kits. What Walnut but did you buy? Blanks or slab? Hope much?

For starters, it looks great. I almost ordered the starter set for those a couple days ago, but decided to hold off. the length and balance of a lot of the "capped" pens make me wonder how they would be in use. I suppose it depends on how big your hands are. I made a PSI Montague not long ago and, though it's not long, it's very top heavy. I can't see anyone with small hands enjoying using it.

It was a set of 5 called "burled highly figured walnut" for $11.95 on ebay. I think they are still listed.
