A variation on a theme for me lately, this one is a commission. I used a 10mm x 9mm carbon fiber tube, tellurium copper, and a Schmidt SKM88 mechanism. The clip was originally chrome, I electroplated with copper sulfate and a 1.5 volt DC current. It didn't work at first until I figured out it had a clear coat applied. After stripping and buffing it plated quickly. Hope you like it. I'm about done working with copper, it wants to scratch just looking at it sitting on the bench.

How was the carbon fiber to work with? I like the look of it.

The carbon fiber wasn't too bad. I covered it with painters tape over the area I was cutting. Cut it a little long using a metal bandsaw and sanded to length using a fence to keep it square. You just have to be careful when sanding, the fibers are bad for the lungs. I polished on the lathe with Miguires swirl remover 2.0.

Thanks, The plan is to just let it darken. I do like the "rose gold" color of freshly polished copper. Has anyone found a good way to seal it so it stays that way?

Hi Dan
I would like to try power coating. I have a set up I just need a toaster oven. There are candy colors that would look good on aluminum. For copper and brass I think clear would work best. Maybe this summer.

I hadn't thought of powder coating. I'm anxious to see your results once you get set up. I've done the color anodizing for aluminum with mixed results. I do have a toaster oven for stabilizing with cactus juice.
