I made this bowl & eggs set for our dining table this weekend. The bowl is Osage Orange & the eggs are Eucalyptus, Camphor, & Walnut plus two Spectraply.

I need to work on my egg shapes, but I'm trying to develop a free-hand technique without using templates or egg chucks. I have made some with templates & an egg chuck (good tutorial in our library) in the past. While those turned out a little nicer, I enjoy doing them free handed more.

Eggs are not perfectly uniform in nature, even from the same species of bird, so I don't think we should get overly concerned about making uniform wooden eggs either.

I plan to make more eggs & maybe some stands for them over the next couple of weeks.

Edgar, that's a very nice looking bowl and collection of eggs, the shape is fine. I have to ask though, and it doesn't matter if they are, are they colored ones supposed to be gay eggs???

Thanks, Len - never thought about that - I just thought the Spectraply might look a little like the hard boiled eggs that my mom used to dye for us. She would mix up several small bowls of dye & generally dipped each egg into one of the bowls for a solid color, but she always dipped a few into two or more of them for multi-colors.

Great looking eggs... I've heard of plymouth rocks chickens, but never heard of plymouth woods... maybe plywoods???

Your shape looks fine to me... I did a bowl full a week or so back but my sizes weren't as uniform as yours...I had a bowl full of chicken eggs, turkey eggs, goose eggs and even one bantam.
