A pen from a few years ago.

Here is a pen I made a few years ago from a kit and blank I got at Woodcraft. I wish I could remember the name of the blanks. Id like to get more of them.

If i remember correctly chopped ice is an acrylic. This was softer than acrylic. It had a lower melting temperature. I had trouble drilling the fist blank but drilled this one successfully. It came already round to. These are the two small pieces i have left.

It is some of that old time material like celoplast or old casein material.

I remember that material. It was hard to drill, melted if you had the wrong wattage bulb over the drill press. It sure did finish up pretty. Yours sure did, that's a beautiful pen! I think I've still got a piece in black and white somewhere.

Not sure, but that blank may be an "Invisavue" blank .... I bought some from Woodcraft, but they are no longer available, it seems.

They used to be available in single colors with a chunky "crystalline" appearance (black, white, red, green, blue), and then there was a black and white blank called "Moo Cow" with the appearance like you show but with the black and white in more nearly equal amounts.

I'd love to get some more of the white if anybody has some to sell or trade.

I found this material to be difficult to drill and turn because it would heat up and melt. . Had to take it very slowly and with light cuts.

There was definitely a slight ridge on both sides of the round blank, just like the pics of your cutoffs seem to show.

It was more expensive than other materials. . It was beautiful when polished up. . Made pens for my wife and my sister in white.
The chunks in the white appear to have subtle rainbow coloring in the right lighting. . I don't have any of the white, but I may have other colors including the "Moo Cow".

It definitely looks like the the right stuff. I got it about 5 to 7 years ago at my local Woodcraft. I will have to see if my wife will let me pick up some of those rods.

Yeah it did melt about that easy. I wouldn't want to leave the pen in a car window.

I'm quite sure that Invisavue is the correct material and the name seems right in my memory now. Berea hard woods appears to have several colors available. Thanks so much everyone for helping track that down.
