Hi all. I've learned a lot from reading and looking at pictures here on IAP so thank you all for that. But I read something somewhere saying there was a cross reference list so people can know what bushings work for other brand pens. Did I misread that, or am I just not able to find it? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi Brad !! . Welcome to IAP !!

Sorry, I can't offer an answer to your question ... I never use bushings anymore ... I use the turning-between-centers (TBC) method.
Check it out ... there are some articles about it in the " Resources " part of this forum. . Who needs bushings ... ;)

Mainly, I just wanted to welcome you to IAP since this is your first "public appearance" ! :)

There is not such a cross reference list, but if you get the IAP Bushings & Tubes App (available for both iOS and Android), there is a search feature that will list all kits for a given bushing size.

The database doesn't have all the new kits from the last 2 years yet, but we are working on an update.

For far too long i have been manually working on an Excel sheet of drill, tube and bushing sizes using the IAP app as a guide (along with measuring some of the newer pieces). Wanted to do that in Excel so i could sort by drill diameter or "finished" bushing diameter. It's not in a user-friendly format yet, but it's doing what i set out to do when i started--which is to make labels for the containers like Turner's Warehouse has been using for bushings. Want to be able to sort/organize by size rather than hardware name--and it's close to good enough for me for that. Might one day be usable enough to place alongside the IAP app--but for the moment most would not find it usable!!

I highly recommend the iPhone and Android IAP apps. They are very useful, but they connect to a server on the internet to get their data. The apps also include a terrific "drill bit conversion tool" for fractional inches, decimal inches, and mm. What makes the conversion tool so special is that if you enter a decimal inch or mm measurement, it will find the nearest fraction and show the error difference. For $0.99, who can beat that?

There is also an old "spreadsheet" chart on the site. It is a PDF file dated 2010. The problems with the chart are that it is NOT searchable, and each entry is split between two separate pages. The author made each page a graphic image, not searchable text. Many people have asked that the originators post a searchable version of the chart, but it falls on deaf ears. Don't waste your time asking. You can find it at the very bottom of this thread: https://www.penturners.org/threads/kit-drill-bit-chart.131656/

While the apps do obtain their data from the IAP server, it is a one-time download after which the data is stored on the device and no further Internet connection is required.

The app will check for database updates periodically when it has an Internet connection, but that's it's only need for an Internet connection once the initial download (or an update) is completed.

I have been hesitant to download the app since I don't have reception in my shop, so thank you Edgar for letting me know the info is stored on the phone. Now I'm going to have to give it a go. Thank you everyone for the information

The most recent 2016 charts are located under References at:

These are dated 8/2016.

penicillin,
I personally don't appreciate your sarcasm! We also don't appreciate rudeness here!

If you don't like what has been compiled for 12 years, and turned into 2 apps, maybe you should create your own charts!

I have tried downloading the PDF version - I presume that is the only option for windows based phones and tablets ?
But every time I try the PDF download it fails ---stating that it fails the virus scan. Anyone else experience this ?

I thought Pen turners were all old guys ? so an app for my 2 inch cell phone screen seems like picking on the bifocally challenged - Now that app converted to a microsoft access database with jpegs of the different pens - view-able on our 32" monitors(or 17" laptops) - old guys might pay double or triple for that

I found your reply just now. I wish you had reached out to me with a PM the same day. Oh well.

-> Please accept my apology for offending you. I was not trying to be sarcastic or rude. The phrases "falls on deaf ears" and "don't waste your time" are just my way of saying, "nobody responds" and "don't bother to ask." That's how my father would have said it, and his father before him. I naturally assumed that everyone interprets those phrases the same way. Apparently not. For that, I apologize.

The facts are:
I asked for a searchable version of the PDF. I have seen others ask, too. Nobody responds.
You compiled the data. It is your right to decide how you want to share it or not. I do not dispute any of that.

Thank you for posting the link to the most recent version of the PDF file. I searched, but did not find it, so your help is appreciated.

Off topic, but related:
I personally don't appreciate a public humiliation by the leadership in a direct forum post.

My track record of posts here stands for itself and is publicly available for all to see. If you take offense at something I post, a PM is a more appropriate and measured response, at least as a first step. I would have done my best to clarify my intent and make it right, either privately or in the thread. You might have learned and understood my intentions without causing a public stink.

I am done offending the forum leadership and others with my sarcasm and rudeness. This will be my last visit to penturners.org. I will contribute my time and energy elsewhere. There are great people here who will take up what little slack I leave behind. Nobody will miss me. Goodbye.

I did eventually get it to download - it's a very good reference
All of my failed attempts were on older windows 7 computers (can't remember if they were all firefox or google chrome browsers)
My success came with a newer windows 10 laptop and chrome internet browser

Well you could have taken your own advice about the PM, but since you chose not to, I must defend Wayne here. First off he had taken some personal time off from the site in the last couple years. So he was away from this.He volunteers to do what he does and does not get rewarded for it. He has asked many many times for help on this issue with charts and other tutorials which is a daunting task being a one man team. The site underwent a new format which then required things being transferred to this site and needed to be formated.

With all that said, the kit industry is constantly changing and additions are being added at a fast pace by many manufacturers. PSI is not the only player. Weather you use bushings or even use the chart to help in other areas of pen making it still is the only place to get such a wide variety of info about kits around the world that is available. To make it available in different formats seems to be a huge undertaking that we do not see from this side of the page. If you or anyone else has the knowledge or ability to streamline all this he has asked before to send him a message and maybe you can contribute to helping this situation. These charts have helped me in the past and am sure will help in the future. I commend what Wayne has done on this site through the many years he has been the library keeper. I have publicly have mentioned this numerous times here because he is a behind the scenes guy and does not get that pat on the back that he deserves.

I know Wayne can defend himself if he needs defending but I think you are being too literal and because of a little dust up throwing away a good thing here by threatening to leave serves no purpose. We all interpret the written word sometimes differently and this is where the problem surfaces at times. Forget it and move on and learn from it. We all are here to enjoy the hobby and grow with it. I am speaking from experience because I too have had my share of this type of rhetoric. I am trying to grow from it.

One thing would be nice if you completed your bio here because I see nowhere your name listed at least. Always nice to call someone by their name instead of a screen name. So hope you reconsider and if not been fun. Take care and happy turning. You are welcome for the knowledge you gained here. :)

Penicillin is wrong. He has fallen on deaf ears!
Since January of 2021 all 27 pen suppliers charts are searchable Pdf! Find them in the library.

Yes apps are still available but data in the apps are not current, we are reworking the apps. The 27 PDF Charts are the most current up to date.
