Hey all,

I'd like to try doing some laser engraving and possibly cutting. Wondering what wattage laser would be needed to cut quarter inch ply and if any of you had experience with it. I'm not looking to spend more than $300 ish and don't know if cutting is even an option at that price point.

If a cutting laser is out of the question at that price, what engravers would any of you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Maybe a k40. I think you can get one for under 300 but on e bought people do a lot of mods.

I had a 1000 mw one based on the blue ray burners. This one is so much better. Finer dots and a 6" by 6" burn area.

Have you engraved on wood, and were you happy with the results?
Only had it a day and a half and it's at my work right now. So far I haven't tried wood but I know it work great once I get the setting down. It's a lot of trial and error and taking notes.

By looking at majicbob's video of his jig, it burns in wood very well. The 1500 burns good on wood, so I would presume the 3500 would burn better.

I have the 7 watt, it engraves wood, acrylics and even corian, Just remember it engraves the plastics it does not change the color, you will have to fill it
.
