I think I am finally getting the hang of this NeJe engraver, they are finiky little buggers.

I have no experience with them, so my comments are as a non-user - the etching looks very clean to me. Very nice.

They're very finicky, but once you get them dialed in, the amount of detail possible gets big reviews from the clients.

Now that I'm getting a bit familiar with them, I'd like to move up to one that'll accept vector and layered images, with halftone and grayscale imaging. If anyone has any ideas about those machines I'd like to hear your suggestions.

Excellent Laser Embossing, Lin.
Looks like you have it "Hook, Line and Sinker".
I have to spend some more time on mine, mainly with getting the .jpeg, right from the source image.

size of the print area

do find that the size is ok for doing pens
seems small about 1 1/2 in square

I am looking at the NeJe engraver to use for my pens but i am not sure which model to begin with. 1000, 1500, or higher Mw?

If I were you I would get the 3500 from nmclasers.com
I just purchased this one and it's a lot more powerful and is an open canter lever style with a much larger pallet.
