I am going through my Dad's tool shed since we have moved my parents to a new place. I ran across this tool and am wondering if anyone can identify it. The blade seems to have been made so it is at an angle to the handle (not bent).

I bet it isn't the only piece of the blade you find. It looks like it came from some industrial cutter(hay, wheat,) At lead thats my guess. Home made tool it appears

I don't think it's a bread knife. The cutting teeth with teeth running in opposite directions in the various sections are cut too precisely to be s homemade tool. The angled blade would allow sawing on a flat surface.

I was thinking bread knife too as the opposing teeth will cut in both directions. Perhaps the area where the teeth change direction is a raker tooth to clear the swarth.
Seems I recall seeing that tooth configuration somewhere....maybe in a past life.

How about that! I am pretty sure Dad did not use it to cut bread. Of course, he was prone to grab whatever was at hand if he thought it might do the job. Thanks!
Your Dad and I think a lot the same way in that regard. My mom used one of those (similar) I have no idea where it is now. I thought I was right, so I did a search. Glad to help out.

To me, it looks a lot like a file that, has had the front and back ground off. A lot of old timers did this, to utilize the metal for another purpose. They had to heat treat the old file, so that it wasn't as brittle as file steel is normally. I don't think that this one, was made into a skew or scraper to use on the lathe. I'm not to sure of what it was used for, quite possibly, it wasn't a finished project.
