Back in March I took an embellishing workshop with Donna Banfield and learned so much. I don't turn but my number one hubby, Charlie_W does so he made me some pieces for the workshop. Here are three items I worked on. A cherry hollow form that has been painted with milk paint and carved with various rotary chisels. The green form is flaming box elder, milk paint, carving, and gilding. You can see some flamed color in some of the carving where paint was removed. The last is a maple platter turned thin and green and left to dry and move. It was burned on both sides, airbrushed with black acrylic paint and gilded. I am learning how important it is to enjoy the process and not expect perfection.

Magnificent.
What a Combination, an Extremely Proficient Turner, and a Gifted Artist/Embellisher/Carver, all in the one House Hold.
Congratulations to you Both.

Brian.

We enjoy collaborating on pieces. New to milk paints but want to try more pieces. Adding a little paint and carving sure enhances a plain piece of wood and Wifey has the eye for making things special!!

Beautiful work!

If you've not already shown these pix to her, I'm sure Donna would love to see them -- she takes great delight in seeing what her students do with the methods she teaches us.

I have indeed sent Donna pictures.
It sounds like you have had instruction from her as well. I enjoy the way she teaches. It just flows.

I'm lucky to have learned both pen and bowl turning from Donna. She's a member of the turning club I attend and has demonstrated embellishing techniques to the club a couple of times. Best of all, she's a good friend.

Beautiful results !! . I also love the basket-weave look of the platter ... very interesting and impressive.

That number one husband of yours seems to be serving you well ... providing those items to work on !!!
