I just realized that I will have been a member of the IAP here for 15 years on May 11th. That seriously makes me feel old.

I haven't turned a pen in a few years (due to divorce and remarriage and loss of shop), but I still read things here and there.

Glad this site is still flying along!! Thanks Jeff and Scott for all you've done here!!!!

Hi Bill!

You're one of the few really old timers still active. Not many with member numbers under 200 who we see too often. Glad you still visit us now and then.

Hey. You're older but not old. Divorce? You'll recover from it. Life is a new beginning after divorce. Mine was so bad it only got better. And way better. Chip up and move forward.
 
Guess I'm an old timer too. First joined on 03-23-2005 under the name eddiek9. And you still have some of my pen pictures in the server. Was nice to go back and look at them.

FWIW: Dan (and Jeff). I very much enjoy poking in old threads and seeing what was done previously. There is a lot of very useful knowledge in the older threads.

I'll vote you merge the accounts and not lose any chit-chat. :smile: Just a friendly poke.

Pulling up the threads from one name (vs two, but the same turner) would also be helpful - my memory is only as sharp as the pad of paper I'm scratching a note on... If I remember where I placed the pad of paper.

Nice to see some names from older threads! Welcome Dan - We left the light on.

Thanks Jeff. Sure, go ahead and merge them if it's not too much trouble.
I know I don't post as much as I could, but I do like reading others posts and have gained a lot of knowledge here. There is a great bunch of people here and if things go right this year, I will be meeting a bunch of you at next years MPG.
 
You got an email Don? LOL. I just found it in a search (I don't even remember what search engine I used in the old days).

Jeff and Don....you know that Cocobolo was supposed to be used for pens? LOL!
 
So, this is the Oldtimers thread! Cool!

There were a number of people I was in contact with by email during that time, but I couldn't email everybody! I remember being quite busy drumming up support, and also catching flack for drumming up support. Penturners had just recently found an online "home" at the Yahoo Penturners, and we ruffled a few feathers by developing the IAP. I think it has turned out pretty well, all things considered! ;-)

Hey Bill! I think I still have a few pieces of that beautiful Cocobolo stashed around here, too!

I can totally relate. I joined just a few months before you did. I'm glad to see how many people have joined the group.

I just logged in today for the first time in quite a while. I'm not sure why. I'm sort of surprised I remembered my user name and password.

My lathe has been silent for some time now. I'm not sure if I will ever go back to making pens, but I do miss making people happy by creating something unique just for them. I also miss the creative aspect of pen making.

I don't miss the dusty aspects of fine woodworking. I never had a proper dust collection system, and I ended up getting a small benign polyp in one nasal cavity. It was easily removed, but it scared me at the time. Just a friendly reminder to all of you folks...fine dust particles are a health hazard, so do everything possible to protect yourselves.

Best wishes to all of my fellow artisans. Keep creating beauty in the world. We need it.
 
Now that you've gotten many of us to wonder, I looked it up... 03/22/2005, just 14 years.
I'm a pup! lol

It is interesting as well the number of folks that seem to fade out a bit for a while, but come back with renewed vigor!! Thanks for the trip down the lane! :biggrin:
 
Not sure what number, but been hanging around here a while myself! It is good to see some 'oldtimers' still being active in the hobby. Don't turn much these days but sure enjoy seeing where it's come from and going to.
