A couple of days ago it came time to wake our pickup from its long winter nap. We just don't drive it in the winter, so we park it and suspend the insurance. Our dishwasher decided to die, and we would need the pickup to go get a new one. So after getting the insurance started, I thought it would be a good time to reauthorize the Sirius XM as well. We usually call and ask for an introductory rate of $5 a month for 6 months, which they were happy to do. But while they had us on the phone they asked if we would like to try their All Access package for $20 more for the 6 months. I usually only listen to one of three channels, so I was going to say no, but they said the All Access came with the ability to stream to any device on the internet. So we decided to try the All Access so we could check out the streaming.

We really like the streaming! We got it set up on our iPads and iPhones, but it's when we set it up on our Fire TV that we really started using it! My favorite channel is 26, Classic Vinyl, and it has been playing most of the day for the past two days. No more crappy radio for us! I wish I had figured this out years ago! I'm not trying to sell subscriptions to Sirius XM. I just hadn't posted in a while and thought I'd ramble a bit. Oh, and we got a new dishwasher last night at Lowe's, where they give me an extra 10% off for being a Veteran. WooHoo!

There are two things about SXM that we don't care for.

It seems to cut out for no reason. Sometimes it does it repetitively, so we have to switch channels. It doesn't happen all of the time, and it doesn't happen on all channels at the same time.

Also, the signal isn't as strong as FM stations. It isn't as crisp and clear.

Neither of these are enough to cancel, and in fact, we got it for $3 a month for a year. There are only a handful of channels we listen to, and it's only in one vehicle.

It's nice to have access to any genre of music, at any time, and any place you travel to. Plus there is weather, traffic, and news channels to keep one up to date.
As for commercial free, yes, there aren't commercials like the radio but, the people spend too much time talking. Reminds me of the Bob and Tom show but, there is always another channel to tune into.

You can stream it to your Alexa, or whatever the heck that's called when you're not talking to it. Then you can use voice activation to get the wrong channel!

Our Sirus XM is coming due next month (year purchase) and I hate paying for subscriptions. However, LOML and I take one 600 mile to 1000 mile round trip per month and it sure is nice.

I didn't know about the $5.00 a month for 6 months and will hit them up for that. We currently are on approximately $10 a month - I paid $110 (I think) for 12 months last year. I have the ability to access to Sirus in my car but I rarely listen to a radio when I am by myself. I spend my driving time just "thinking/planning" and create - in my mind.

I had Sirius XM for the trial period when I got my new car in 2012. I wasn't using it, so did not re-new it.

I started getting daily calls from them trying to get me to buy the service. I told them no and asked repeatedly for them to stop calling. It did not end until I finally asked to speak to a supervisor.

It bordered on harassment, and I should have complained to GM and the Attorney General. When I think about it, it still makes me angry.

I've had a similar experience with them, I pay for Youtube premium so I don't have to watch commercials and it comes with Google Play music which seems to be pretty awesome. I just stream to my car via bluetooth.

Do you start and let the truck run while it's off the road? My father always said the worst thing for an engine, gas or diesel, to sit for long periods. He would start their motor home at least once a week and let it run for 15-20 minutes so the temp would raise to normal highway temp. An example is the 66 Olds that we got when my wife's grandfather died in 1972. Rarely run and only 6K miles for 6 years old. Once, the tranny wouldn't go! Mechanic said the fluid had sat so long that it literally turned to a syrup. Took 9 quarts of fluid to clean the tranny.
Our Dodge truck had one year of Sirius- turned off at 6 months. Dealer tried to get it reinstated- nothing. Decided we didn't need it as we had a CD player.

Hi John,

When we park it, I have the best of intentions to go out and start it at least once a month. But in reality, if I start it twice over the winter I'm doing good! It's a 2012 Dodge Ram 3/4 ton diesel, and so far it has performed fine.

Oh, and the first dishwasher we got didn't fit, so we took it back and got one that would fit. It was $200 more, but it is much better made, so I guess we don't feel bad. Got it installed yesterday (with only four cuts on my hands), and it works great!
