Well... our power was out earlier so, I was looking for something to do, when I found a box of blanks that I cast a while ago.
Inside, I found these two that really caught my eye.

It's blanks like these, that have me hoping to do some more casting.
I'm not sure if I'll cast blanks for pens, or something else, since I don't have any kits to make pens.
I could cast for other projects but, I probably won't get to those either.
I just prefer the casting part. It's always a surprise to see what comes out of a mold.

Here is an interesting blank that I found. Apparently, I turned it down, maybe for a Sierra style pen?
The color blends the length and radius of the blank.

John, nice blanks, if you could continue to get results like this. You could probably sell as many as you could make, I know I would be interested in purchasing some of them from you.

Len, there are a couple of problems with selling blanks. The first is I don't do PayPal. If people are willing to send either a check or money order, then it would be worth considering.

The second is, I don't, or haven't, done production runs when casting. I tend to cast a set of any given pour. I do this because I haven't needed more than that, and I like to use different colors, in various combinations to see what comes from the mold. That also keeps them unique... in a way.
So the blanks would have to be listed, and purchased from what is listed, which would be that particular blank shown.

I would think that the majority would feel it's too much of a hassle.

Second photo, lower left- my favorite of the batch. Nice and look forward to seeing the complete pens.

What specifically about the blank, makes it your favorite?

I made a pen from a piece of that block, and it was claimed quickly.

I think all of those blanks look fantastic! I've done several PR pours for my own use, nothing too out there, just basic single and two color pours. Like you, I just like to see what comes out of the mold.....seems like every new pour becomes my favorite. While only by a slim margin, I'd say the blank on the right in your first pic is my favorite. The striking contrast between the purple and silver really makes it pop, at least to my eyes.

I like the top one in the second set of pics (shorty). That "misty" style can be tricky to get right, and IME varies greatly depending on what color you backpaint the hole which is another plus. Nice job on all of them. I'm with you on selling blanks, it seems like too much of a hassle to me, I prefer to keep it fun.

The painting doesn't always alter my casts. Some of them are opaque enough, that painting doesn't have any effect.
The one you refer to, would likely benefit from painting. It utilizes some of the clear pigments, similar to those in this thread (http://www.penturners.org/forum/f43/clear-pigments-159202/), so there is likely some parts of the swirl that would show the tube. I think a dark color would intensify the brighter green... that's the clear pigment. It really flashes as the blank is in motion.

I agree, I really enjoy casting but, I don't want it to turn into a job.
I can post some of my casts for those interested but, it would only be what is shown. I wouldn't attempt to re-create a cast, or do several of the same thing. First come...

Keeping track of everything, makes it a job. I have so many different colorants, I prefer to experiment with all of the colors, and effects.
