Tomorrow is my two year anniversary here on IAP, my how the time has flown by. At the time I had no clue what an adventure I was embarking on. I really appreciate everyone here helping me grow my skills to where I am today. But don't go anywhere, I still have a ton to learn!

Here is my latest pen, a Black Chrome Panache in Spalted Poplar. The wood was part of my 2018 Super Bowl pool winnings from RHoliday. It looks like the blank was part of a 2017 Bash BOB as the blank was marked "2017 Bash Jsolie". Not sure where it was before that. I stabilized with CJ using my pickle jar setup. I hope I did you guys proud with this one. I'm especially happy with the alignment of the spalt lines - not the most amazing achievement but something I've failed at more than once.

Have always loved the potential of the Panache: with the spalting it really does make for a striking pen. How did you finish it?

I agree with you for sure, the size, shape, and absence of a clip definitely invites creativity. I finished with CA, about 6 coats of BSI thin, then sand and micromesh, then Hut ultrashine.

Looks great Sam . One of my favourite woods because of the wide variety of appearances it can have . Rollerball or fountain ?

Thanks Wayne! It's the Rollerball. I was expecting the black Chrome to be more like gun metal, and the gold tip is a little different, but I'm happy with it in the end...

Well done. An interesting kit with the perfect blank to match the patterns, which you nailed.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for all of the positive comments everyone!

Thanks Mal, I have always struggled with my photos. Some pens are easier to shoot than others, thankfully this one was pretty easy. A while back I made a cheap cardboard light box (similar to this one: https://youtu.be/T6fnHEvLyAE) using tissue paper to diffuse the light and a few of these clamp lamps for light source (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9IY6US/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_VtqKCbT5P1G9A). I usually use my cell phone because its faster and I get decent shots without a tripod. Trying to get the shots and keep my toddler from getting into too much stuff can be a challenge.

No problem Jay. I still struggle a little with black background photos. The light to medium darkness pens look pretty good against white, so that covers much of what I make. At some point I am going to get a tripod for my DSLR camera and play around with black backgounds, but for now that's on the back burner...

Thanks Tony! I wasn't sure I was going to like the kit, but it is actually really interesting. Its not the easiest to write with, but it is definitely "useable". One thing is that the endcaps are slightly tapered to match the geometry of the kit, it is one of those little things that most people won't notice at first but improves the overall appearance and feel. The plating and components all seem great. You do need to have a pretty good size blank (the widest diameter is 0.788"), the upside being that it really shows off the material. The CSUSA version (Panache - which I used here) is a tad expensive for my taste, I am going to give the Dinero (woodpenpro.com/products/the-dinero-pen-kit) a try at some point.

One other thing is that squaring the blanks is a little more difficult due to the size and amount of "meat". I square on the lathe, so wasn't an issue for me. I would guess that a sanding jig would probably work fine too. But a barrel trimmer is probably not going to work.

That's such a pretty piece of wood and well-matched to a kit that shows it off. I still struggle with matching kits to blanks but I'm hoping that comes with experience! Wish I'd seen it in the Pretty Wood Contest.

Nice work.
