Here's another Wood ID Puzzle.

Five blanks from George's Bits of Timber are shown in the attached photo. In some order, these are specimens number 16, 17, 24, 79, and 82 from George's Timbers List.

Your challenge is to put them in the right order 1-5 (you may use the specimen number or name or both). You will earn 1 point if you get at least 3 right and 2 points if you get them all correct. Send your entries to iap.puzzles@gmail.com and be sure to put Puzzle #9 in the Subject and your user name in the message.

Deadline for this puzzle is noon Tuesday, Feb 26.

Banter is encouraged, but no answers or strong hints.

Good luck
Edgar

Maybe i'm an idiot, but when you say in order, are you talking alphabetical or numerical order? Or any order we feel like

Numerical order 1-5 as shown in the photo. Which specimen from George's Timbers List (by number or name) is each blank?

As is customary with wood ID threads, will OP please provide: relative hardness, weight, sanded endgrain photos, any identifying markings (i.e. numbers written on the end of the blanks), etc...

1. Some kind of wood
2. Wood of some kind
3. Kind of some wood
4. Wood kind of some
5. Of some kind wood

That's my guess--without providing any hints!! Now a last ditch effort to find 45 answers to the crossword, so i can score another point. That one has me mumbling--and i took a 90 minute lunch one day last week even!!

Not that you haven't done enough already Edgar, but can we see the answers to this one? I'm pretty sure I got 2 of them, but curious about the other three.

Sorry - I intended to post the results, but I apparently overlooked this one.

Here you go - I have also included the end shot that someone requested. :)

1. #79 Cotonester Berry
2. #16 Black Wattle
3. #82 Rock Oak
4. #24 Cork Tree
5. #17 Silver Wattle
