Just a bit of speculation here. I suspect that the "blackest black" is a surface phenomenon; ie reflectivity rather than pigmentation. If this is the case you probably aren't going to be gaining anything over carbon black when adding it to resin. Worth a try though.

That's my guess as well. If I do buy some I'm willing to try making a blank just to see what I get. I expect the "carrier" (resin) would still give a specular shine, not that I'm really wishing for a matte finish on a pen. Could be a fun experiment.

Not about tinting resin, but as a leather worker I was taught when you wanted black, to first dye the leather with navy blue, then dye with the black dye. Will a drop of blue added to black make it look blacker? That is your mission impossible project.

Here is an interesting short clip about vantablack. It is supposedly the darkest black in existence.

Not sure what happened to the sound.

Sound played for me.

This variant is supposed to be at least as black if not more. It's also sort of revenge for Anish Kapoor buying up exclusive rights to Vantablack. He's not allowed to buy any of Black 3. The guy who created this black previously created the world's pinkest pink, which Kapoor was also not allowed to buy.

Local trivia, Kapoor apparently hates the nickname "The Bean" for his "Cloudgate" sculpture in downtown Chicago. Everybody calls it that anyway.
