Any ideas for slimline'ish click pen?

I want to make a pen for my daughter this year for Christmas. She wants a Slimline'ish pen, because her hands are small. She also would prefer a click pen. I gave her a Stratus pen last year, but she says the click is "too quiet". (I know, but I want to get her something that she wants, no matter what I think of her choices.) Any ideas for a slender click pen?

Hello Roger, have you considered the Slimline Pro kit? You can find it at many of the kit vendors. I will have to defer to others on this forum who have used it and can attest to the audible "click-iness" of the pen

I agree with "The Chief" above ... the Slimline Pro (a PSI product sold by several other vendors also) is what I make when I want a slimline'ish click pen. . The click mechanism is not quiet, but it is acceptable, so your daughter will hear (and feel) the click.

From my observations, people that like the slimline for the feel are then drawn to the sierra style next. The aero click might be an option if the sierra feel is acceptable.

Yes, indeed ... the Aero click is a lovely pen design for the smaller hand !

That Tempest you made is a lovely pen, Pete. . Enjoyed having another look at it.

Can you tell us the finished diameters of both lower and upper barrels, please.

Just want to compare to the slimline size, and also the Slimline Pro size.

Sure Mal

Drill bit for lower tube is 8.1mm. Bushing OD sizes are 0.354" and 0.390".
Drill bit for upper tube is 10.3mm. Bushing OD sizes are both 0.455".

I used fractional equivalents for the drill bits but don't remember offhand what they were.

If finishes up thicker than a Slimline but there are a bucketload of pen makers that like to fatten their Slims so it wouldn't cause them to sweat much.

I'll add that the refill it comes with, a Parker type, writes nice and doesn't need to be replaced with a Schmidt.

Thank you, Pete !! . I can see that I am going to have to get some Tempest kits .. very nice.

13/32 (= 0.4063", whereas 10.3mm is 0.4055") will work for the larger drill bit, but I can't find a close equiv. for the smaller unless I go to letter sizes, but that's no problem because I have them (probably use a "P" which is 0.323" whereas 8.1mm is 0.3189". . An "O" might do, but it is undersize at 0.3160". . Would need to measure the brass tubes before deciding.).

I wonder why they designed for fractional metric sizes, which are a little bit hard to come by

Scottish company or because they wanted to fit the Parker refill and still clear the pressed in hardware. For us getting the kit directly from Beaufort is cheaper with postage and exchange etc., so just get the drill bits at the same time as the kit. I should have as I wouldn't have had to hunt for drill bits in my disorganized stash. I think I used the next size up fractional bit. Bushings are TBC if that matters to you.

Just checked a kit and inside the upper end fitting of the lower tube is about a millimeter bigger than the refill and the upper barrel is just big enough for the one piece click mechanism that incorporated the clip and fitting. So that's the reason.

Thanks for all the responses

Thanks for all the responses to my Slimline'ish pen question. I will look into the Slimline pro, and the Aero click, and the other suggestions that were presented.
