This is a Nakaya style Japanese leather pen case. I have always wanted to purchase one of these as I really think that they are well designed. At $200 USD plus shipping from Japan, I just never mustered up the courage to pull the trigger. Well now that I am getting into leatherwork, I just told myself to get to work and make them yourself. So that's what I did. Hope that you like them.

Hard to believe that price! I glue and rivet pieces of leather that are cut to size of the pen and slide them home. The pens are protected in their entirety and the cost is a few minutes work. Amen! P.

Nice job, it looks great! I personally prefer to make things myself when I can - it provides a feeling more valuable to me than just purchasing an item.

Pardon my ignorance, but is there a specific function related to this type of pen case? It's definitely unique compared to others I have seen. I have learned that in Japanese culture great thought is put into the packaging of items, but I am not sure if this is simply aesthetic or something else.

Some will pay at the price point but not all. I am certain that the masters from Japan are capable of commanding that price and some would not mind paying for more. I make mine with care and patience and do not care for using rivets. My aim is for producing quality pieces with love and care. Not interested in rushing the process and at cutting corners to save time.

Thanks for your kind words and I am not certain if this particular design has any specific function or any special significance. What I can attest to is that it is a good design that appeals to my taste.:)
