I have been keeping an eye out for some thin wood. Not veneers but 1/16" to 3/8". Most places on line are quite expensive for small pieces. It's also hard to find different woods, once it gets under 1/2". Woodcraft has a decent selection but don't go lower than 1/8" on some and 1/4" on most. Planing this down seems like such a wast and I don't have a decent enough bad saw to slice it thinner.

Anyone know a good source of lumber this thin that won't charge for the entire tree for a small piece? These could even be scraps/cut offs.

Thanks.

Take a look at bell forest too. I'm new to the whole pen world and not sure if their prices are fair but they have a ton of species

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, couple places I didn't know about.

1/16" and 1/8" is considered a veneer.

I know , but most people instantly think of the super thin paper like veneers, so just wanted to distinguish.

It will hinder your search parameters if doing one was my point. Many ,many sites sell veneers or thin lumber.

I will second JT's suggestion of D & D Hardwoods - I use them for all of my thin stock. Have probably made 8-10 orders over the last 3 years, never had a problem. The product is of excellent quality as to the dimensions and sanding. Essentially ready to use if the dimensions are what you want. Although I do sand down a lot for thinner dimensions with a Byrnes Sander (I'm fortunate).

For thin veneers as well as some thicker veneers and in bulk, check this out: B&B Rare Woods Shopping Cart

When I make some of my trim ring blanks, standard packs from Sauer (through whatever vendor) will have some wastage. I can get long sheets from these folks and have much less wastage. Buy in bulk, free postage also. And again, my experience has been good (they have a lot of variety, so be patient with their website options/menus).

Have FUN.
