Well I did it. I turned an end grain cedar piece. I found a half rotten cedar log behind the house and brushed of the softest pieces, stabilized the punky edges and cracks with CA and turned it. It required lots of sanding because of the soft spots and has splotchy color in places (I am guessing that's due to some places being more punky than others). I am not sure if it was worth the effort but I can say I did it.

Excellent final result Cody!

Did you hear the airplane propellor???

I have not done this yet, but for the demos I went to, the "wings" were very ..."Vocal." And ominous! Yes, we did clear out a safe zone.

Looks to be well turned Cody! With red cedar being noted for bark inclusions, I would suggest wearing riot gear protection.
Between bark inclusions and cracks, I would just steer clear and find something else to turn.
