Anyone have the Rikon 70-105? I know it's just a glorified HF 1018 but it's got a better warranty & it looks like a different motor on it. Any experience or advice you can give on it would be appreciated. I'm on disability with a low budget & I only plan on turning pens with it. I've had Jet mini lathes in the past but the 1015 is out of my reach financially. Craigslist doesn't have anything on at the moment either, besides I'd prefer something with a warranty.
Thanks.

I have it. Turned over 250 pens with it so far and don't have any issues. That I know of. Its my first lathe so it very well may be doing something odd and I don't know it.

Believe me Rikon is not a glorified HF tool. I have the 70-100 and the 220 VS and they have been great tools. Your Lathe will last a lifetime unless you want to upgrade down the road

I didn't mean to imply that all Rikons were glorified HF tools. It's just that this particular one looks exactly like HF's 10" x 18" model #65345. It's also exactly like the Rockler Excelsior. It appears that Rikon spec'd a better motor because the biggest complaint HF gets is that theirs run hot.
