I was looking through the library and couldn't find the answer to this. I have a bottle of rubbing alcohol in the basement and am wondering if it's interchangeable with denatured alcohol for the cleaning of pen blanks. Cleaning only, not consumption:rolleyes: Thanks for any help.

The short answer is they are NOT the same. Rubbing alcohol is isopropyl (sp?)alcohol; denatured is ethanol alcohol. Rubbing alcohol will not work as well (if at all) for cleaning tubes.

Rubbing alcohol, or isopropyl alcohol is usually about 70% but can also be found as 90% and 99% alcohol.
DNA is ethyl alcohol which has been "denatured" by the addition of methanol and other ingredients to make it undrinkable.
Both contain a small amount of water.
If you want to clean you blanks, use acetone or better yet, use CA accelerator.
