The sapwood and color is about perfect, the contrast in grain is right. The only thing that causes me to hesitate, is if that is Zircote, it's possibly one of the finest figured pieces I've seen in a very long time, and possibly burly! WOW! beautiful piece you have there!
Given the almost reddish hue in the photo, it's also possible this is one of many rosewoods. Several Dalbergia species exhibit similar color and grain with a light colored sapwood. All Dalbergia species are now CITES II restricted...
Zircote is on par with Ebony Gaboon for price and rosewoods are restricted. Either way, my money is on rare and expensive.
Here's the test. Did it have a floral or perfume like pleasant scent to it when you turned it?
