I have made two mistakes within the last 12 hours, one turning related one not. I had lasik surgery earlier this year and have been using eye drops since them. So I grabbed a dropper bottle and put drops in my eyes. Imediately after doing the second eye the first eye started burning and the second shortly followed. During my temporary blindness my wife read the bottle and told me that I had put ear drops in my eyes. Aside from having bloodshot eyes, I have now recovered from that misadventure.

The second and turning related mistake was to join the American Association of Woodturners. In looking for through the latest journal I identified 3 projects that I just have to try. I then found that my membership gave me access to archives of the journal and there was a searchable database of past articles. Already downloaded 3 additional journals with must do projects. Given that I am a bit obsessive I will be lost in projects that I have to try for the rest of my life.

Just wanted to repeat that thought. There are so many ways to hurt our eyes. Just think of how our pen turning (not to mention all other aspects of living and life) would be affected if one were to have allowed permanent and serious damage to his (her) eyes!

I hope your recovery is total and complete!

As I mentioned in another post ... I didn't like the way my "chippy" blanks were throwing sharp little bits up towards my face ... so now, when I turn those or anything that tends to throw things around, I wear a face shield that I picked up for cheap at Harbor Freight.

I do wear very thick glasses ... polycarb lenses nearly 1/4 inch thick, so it would probably stop a .22 at close range (not that I'll test that anytime soon). It's just that I felt that all those little chips hitting my face and getting trapped BEHIND my glasses were more than just a little annoying... so I got the face shield.

Cody, glad that your eyes are ok. That gets pretty scary.

Now, let's turn this thread into something interesting.

What is your "what have I done to myself" moment?

Mine was getting the hairspray and my spray deodorant mixed up when I didn't have my glasses on. 'Nuff said on what happened.

Oh Cody you silly boy!

Next you'll be attending the local chapter meeting, volunteering to be treasurer, then president and find your self assisting in a bowl turning class all day on a Saturday.

Come back from the dark side.

I would ask for a refund on that lasik surgery.

On a good note it was nice to meet your misses. It was all I could do to not mention her organizing your shop.

Good move on joining AAW.

Oh Cody.....It wasn't your fault.......You had visions of burls, hollowing rigs, blanks and demos clouding your thinking
.....That's what the Virginia Symposium will do to a turner!

Glad you are okay!

FYI.....Ear Wax softening drops are banned at wax museums!

Be careful not to wander into the "Video Source" section of AAW's website....and definitely avoid catching next year's annual symposium in Kansas City, Missouri....you might end up with even more cool must-do ideas...

A friend of mine put video head cleaner in his eye when he thought he was using eye drops. He was off work for a few days. You guys remember having to use video head cleaner right??? lol

I do. I believe I still have the kit. You never know. Vinyl records are making a come back.
