Inexpensive way to send one pen

I usually send two or more pens in SFRB...in my mind - for under $7 - for 2 or 3 day service is a great deal (again, in my mind). Sometimes, I want to send just one pen, and I don't care how long it takes to get there (under a week would be nice). Does any one know of a less costly alternative to a SFRB. I was thinking a padded envelope, but doesn't really afford much protection.

Very interested in the replies. May be mailing the first pen of a potential ten pen order tomorrow. Just want them to make sure they like it first.

For the couple of dollars saved, I would not feel comfortable sending a $40 pen in an envelope. I would use a SFRB as a minimum...

You can get small boxes for mailing and send them first class. You can save a couple of dollars that way.

I send single pens in padded envelopes all the time. I wrap the pen in bubble wrap and then place it in the padded enevelope. First class with tracking under $3.00. Never had a problem.

Yes small box and first class mail. Saves a few bucks and if sending in the US it will get there.

Now if you are sending a couple hundred $$$ pen then a safer way with insurance would be the way to go. do it all the time.

I put my pens in a clear plastic tube. I buy them 100 at a time from Woodturningz: Clear Plastic Tubes - Square 3/4" - WoodTurningz . Put the pen in the tube and the tube in a padded envelope. Never had a pen damaged mailing 1-10 pens at a time.

There are minimum dimensions for mailing in boxes so they don't fall through the automated =equipment. I have never had a customer balk at the price of a small flat rate box. They are free, handy and time savers.

I use an inexpensive box wrapped with bubble wrap in a padded envelope. The box, envelope, and bubble wrap cost me about $0.65 and shipping is $2.60 (domestic). It usually arrives within a week.
I send pens all over the world this way and haven't had any problems (yet).

The boxes are very protective. I get them from Amsterdam Printing.

Thanks folks. I should have been more clear to so that I didn't inadvertently lead you to any false conclusions - my fault. I am very comfortable sending single gift pens with parts and blank costs under $15 less expensively. My sale pens and higher end gift pens all get wrapped and sealed like they are traveling to Japan under water. LOL. My SIL and colleague (female) just asked me, "What is the best way to get your boxes open?" I told the to wait for their husbands to get home from work. .

I wrap in bubble wrap and a bubble envelope from the dollar store, 3 for $1.00. I do it this way all the time, never had an issue.

This is what I do too. Not just domestic 1st class mail but international as well. Shipped all over the world without an issue.

Padded envelopes for me. Depending on the pen. I will either us the plastic sleeves or tubes wrapped in the thin plastic bubble wrap stuff . If I send one thats in a box i usually go ahead and send in a small flat rate box with bubble wrap or the plastic p-nut things
